Edward Borein (1872–1945) was a cowboy-turned-arti

Edward Borein (1872–1945) was a cowboy-turned-artist whose etchings and drawings captured the American West with unmatched authenticity. Raised on California ranches, he spent his youth riding the range before turning to art, bringing a working cowboy’s eye for detail to every horse, rider, and stretch of open country he depicted. A key figure in the Santa Fe art scene and a close friend of Charles M. Russell, Borein became known for his crisp, action-filled black-and-white work that documented a rapidly disappearing frontier. Today he’s remembered as one of the West’s most truthful visual historians—an artist who drew the world he knew firsthand.
