I am delighted to invite you to attend a talk and exhibition by my friend, the artist Ignacio (Natxo) Arteta: “and it happened in Pittsburgh”. The talk and show opening will be August 27 at 6.30PM at Radiant Hall—McKees Rocks (734 Thompson Ave. McKees Rocks, PA 15136) and will feature a carefully curated selection of past and recent works, offering a multifaceted glimpse into his creative world.

While Natxo’s work is shown in premiere galleries in Spain and Europe, his unique, decades-long relationship with Pittsburgh has had a lasting impact, and that is the subject of what promises to be a fascinating evening. “…and it happened in Pittsburgh” follows an introspective journey that captures the evolution of his artistic expression and personal growth during the last 23 years working with the Concept Art Gallery, at Braddock Avenue in Pittsburgh.

His work is a shifting composition of colors, shapes, and emotions that come together to form a constantly evolving narrative. Almost as an individual would walk through consciousness and personal observation. Natxo and I share Basque roots in northern Spain and the ethnology of this enigmatic, “first European” people also informs his work.

Join us for an evening of exploration of these and other themes that center an artist’s experience of our city.

Giles Bettison (b. 1966, Australia) has become one

Giles Bettison (b. 1966, Australia) has become one of Australia’s most dominant and recognised glass artists. This acclaim can be attributed to his unique & strikingly beautiful application of colour, patterns and forms in his continual exploration of the traditional techniques of Murrini glass. His works invite a subtle contemplation of the environment in country South Australia, which inspires him.

He has evolved the ancient Venetian technique called “Murrini” or mosaic glass to construct patterned sheets from colored glass canes. He cuts and combines these sheets to build his luminous vessels piece by piece. Bettison is known world wide for his pioneering efforts using the “Murrini technique.” His work is incredibly unique, combining old and new technology to create some of the finest glass available today.
